Herobrine

A horror hunt that stalks players and comes back after you kill it

Herobrine isn't a boss you line up and duel. He tracks players, rearranges the world around them, and comes back after being killed. Most of the tension comes from not knowing where he is, or whether what you just saw was real.

Important:
Herobrine hits for six hearts within melee range, so almost any close encounter is lethal without decent armor. He is killable (100 HP), but the pack is built as a horror-focused hunt, not a balanced boss fight. He also respawns from a dummy after being killed, so the hunt does not end on the first kill.

How It Starts

Spawning the encounter drops an invisible dummy near the closest player. A random opening line goes out in chat and a stalk aura ticks for 3 to 5 minutes, dripping ominous whispers into chat while the real Herobrine gets ready to appear.

Once the timer ends, the dummy teleports 5 to 10 blocks from the nearest player, plays a heartbeat and fake lightning buildup, then summons the actual HEROBRINE_MOB and removes itself. When that mob dies, a new dummy is summoned right away (unless the option is disabled), so the loop restarts.

Sightings

Sometimes you only catch him at the edge of your vision, watching from between the trees. You're never quite sure whether the figure staring back is the real Herobrine or a decoy planted to pull your attention while the real one is somewhere else.

Herobrine peeking at night
The real hunt The real Herobrine peeks from cover and keeps following. Turn your back for too long and he can end up right behind you.
Fake Herobrine peeking
Fake watcher Looks the same. Stands still and stares. Walk up to one and it usually dissolves, while the real Herobrine may already be elsewhere.

Real and Fake Herobrine

The real Herobrine (HEROBRINE_MOB) actively hunts players inside a 1000-block combat range. He teleports 5 to 10 blocks from the nearest player every couple of seconds, prefers survival-mode targets, and will cross into another world if no players are left in his current one. He can also teleport when hit, walks over water on Frost Walker boots, and tramples farmland back to coarse dirt.

Fake Herobrines (HEROBRINE_FAKE) are silent watchers with no AI. They spawn 16 to 28 blocks from a player, stare, and only exist for about 13 seconds. Get within 7 blocks and the fake vanishes in smoke, with a small chance to trigger a jumpscare that deals 4 damage and applies short Blindness. On rare ticks (5% chance) it will reposition 6 to 12 blocks closer instead of standing still. It never lands on the player.

Combat 4

Melee Hit

Standard melee within 2 blocks deals 12 damage on the extra HEROBRINE_DAMAGE skill, on top of vanilla attack damage.

Countdown

Chat counts 3, 2, 1, then screams and teleports 6 blocks in front of the target. 90s cooldown, combat pool.

Combat 2

Scream

Ghast scream sound at up to two players within 20 blocks. Sound only, no blindness on this skill.

Ambient 4

Torch Placer

Drops redstone torches at up to five random spots 3 to 12 blocks away for 30 seconds, and sometimes sends "Someone left lights behind..."

Ambient 4

Close Darkness

Combat 4

Heartbeat

Plays the Warden heartbeat sound on Herobrine whenever a player is within 15 blocks.

On Timer

Combat 3

Ominous Messages

Spawns a HEROBRINE_FAKE 16 to 28 blocks from the nearest player. Capped at 2 fakes within 80 blocks.

Fake Trigger

Closer Watch

Fakes get one 5% roll to reposition 6 to 12 blocks closer while a player stays outside 14 blocks. Never on the player.

Fake Trigger

Persistent Hunt

Catch-up teleport every 2 seconds. Prefers a survival player, falls back to any player, and will hop worlds if none are around.

On Timer

Chest Filler

Fills up to two chests or barrels within 20 blocks with rotten flesh. Low chance for extra rotten flesh, TNT, or diamond passes.

Ambient 3

Combat 4

On Timer

Farmland Break

While on farmland or dirt, breaks nearby wheat, carrots, potatoes, beetroot, pumpkins and melons in a 1-2 block ring and swaps farmland to coarse dirt.

On Timer

Teleport When Hit

50% chance on being damaged to short-hop 5 blocks in any direction.

On Damaged

Items In The Pack

Herobrine's Boots

Unbreakable black-dyed leather boots with Frost Walker I. Herobrine equips these on himself while standing in water, which is how water freezes under his feet. The mob has PreventOtherDrops on and no drop table, so the boots are not looted by default.

Requirements

LibsDisguises is required for the correct skins. Without it, Herobrine may end up rendered as a cat.

The download includes a LibsDisguises folder. Copy both of the following into your server's LibsDisguises directory:

  • SavedSkins. Skin configuration
  • Skins. PNG skin files

A full server restart is strongly recommended once those files are in place.
